About Dr. Heinzelmann-Weisbaum

After personal experience with both neurologic and orthopedic injuries as a collegiate athlete at Davidson College, Dr. H-W was inspired to become a physician to care for athletes, exercisers, and any individuals motivated to improve their health, function, and quality of life. After college, she spent two years performing research at the National Institutes of Health on traumatic brain injury in athletes and military personnel, before obtaining her MD at George Washington University. She then completed her Neurology residency at UT Southwestern, where she served as Chief Resident. Lastly, she completed a Sports Neurology and Pain Medicine fellowship at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, where she gained invaluable experience treating neurologic injuries and pain in youth, collegiate, and professional athletes in the clinic and on the sidelines. Her passion for her work has been highlighted through speaking engagements, interviews, written pieces, podcast episodes, and an appearance in the FIGS x Team USA media campaign for Olympics 2024.

Outside of her practice, she conducts and publishes research, provides ringside neurologic coverage for combat sports, and serves as a member of the Emory School of Medicine Anti-Racism Committee. She’s also an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (Sports Neurology and Spine Sections), Association of Ringside Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and International Pain & Spine Intervention Society. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, working out, traveling, attending sports events, and expanding her FIGS scrubs and Nike sneakers collections.
